Sacred History

History of Shree Umiyadham Sidsar

Five moments that shaped this holy place — rooted in faith, devotion, and the miraculous manifestation of Maa Umiya.

Origins

The Divine Blessing of Kanasagara Ratnabapa

The sacred history of Umiyadham Sidsar begins with Shree Kanasagara Ratnabapa, a humble and devoted farmer from Devda village in the Porbandar district. Ratnabapa lived a simple life, earning his livelihood through farming while dedicating himself to the service of saints, guests, and the constant remembrance of God.

Because of his humility, devotion, and noble character, people lovingly addressed him as “Bhagat.”

One day, a saint visited Ratnabapa’s home. Deeply moved by his sincere hospitality and unwavering faith, the saint blessed him, saying:

Serve Maa Umiya with unwavering faith and devotion. Your life shall be blessed, and your name shall become immortal.

Inspired by these divine words, Ratnabapa devoted his life entirely to the worship of Maa Umiya.

Vision

The Divine Dream

One night, while immersed in deep meditation, Ratnabapa received a divine vision. Maa Umiya appeared before him in a dream and lovingly said:

My sacred idol lies buried on the outskirts of Sidsar village. Bring it to light and establish My presence there.

Although Ratnabapa was uncertain whether others would believe his vision, Maa Umiya appeared to him once again the following night, reaffirming her divine command. Realizing that it was the will of the Goddess, he set out for Sidsar.

Discovery

The Manifestation of Maa Umiya

Ratnabapa shared his divine vision with the villagers of Sidsar. Initially, many were doubtful, but inspired by his sincerity, they agreed to search the location shown in his dream.

On the southern bank of the Venu River, they found the sacred mark exactly as described by Ratnabapa. As the excavation began, a large black stone was discovered. With complete faith in Maa Umiya, the stone was carefully removed, revealing a magnificent marble idol of Shree Umiya Mataji.

The divine idol radiated extraordinary spiritual energy, filling everyone present with devotion and amazement. It was believed that Maa Umiya had manifested herself to bless her devotees and make Sidsar her eternal abode.

1899 AD

The Return to Sidsar

The miraculous discovery quickly spread throughout the region. The ruler of Gondal, Maharaja Bhagvatsinhji, wished to install the idol in Gondal. However, Maa Umiya appeared in the Maharaja’s dream and declared:

I wish to remain among My children who cultivate the land. Return Me to Sidsar.

Respecting the divine command, the idol was brought back to Sidsar, where devotees established a sacred temple.

Ratnabapa dedicated the remainder of his life to the service of Maa Umiya, becoming an eternal symbol of faith, humility, and selfless devotion. His spiritual legacy continues to inspire millions of devotees.
